Packing Tips to Make Your Storage Unit Experience A Successful One

The following tips have been compiled using our many years of experience in the storage unit packing business. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Choose the Right Size

Opt for a storage unit that is just the right size to accommodate your belongings. Pack the unit to its full capacity to save space and money.

Get the Right Materials

Gather all the necessary packing materials, such as boxes, tape, markers, and bubble wrap or packing paper.

Use Uniform Boxes

Try using boxes of uniform size for easy stacking. This will save you space and make it easier to access your belongings.

Create an Inventory List

Make an inventory list of all the items you are storing and keep it safe away from the storage unit.

Prepare the Space

To guard against dampness, cover the floor with a protective covering and place your storage items on 2x4 boards or pallets.

Leave Some Space

Allow for air circulation by leaving a small space between the walls and boxes and creating an aisle down the center of the storage unit for easier access.

Avoid Combustible Items

Never store combustible items like gasoline, paint thinner, solvents, or paint in the storage unit.

Stack Properly

Stack heavier boxes at the bottom and lighter ones at the top to prevent damage.

Use Strong Boxes

Use sturdy boxes that can hold up to 25-30 pounds to prevent damage to your belongings.

Label Everything

Label all boxes on all four sides, number them, and seal them with tape.

Wrap Fragile Items

Wrap dishes, glasses, pictures, and mirrors in paper or cardboard, pack them in sturdy boxes, and stack them on top.

Protect Furniture

Use furniture with drawers to store smaller items. Cover upholstered furniture with blankets or cardboard to protect against dust.

Store Appliances Properly

Larger appliances can store blankets, towels, or clothes. To prevent rusting, wipe metal items with machine oil.

Be Careful with Electronics

Put TVs and other electronics at the back of the unit to avoid damage.

Store Things Together

Group items like shovels, hoes, rakes, and hoses together in empty trash cans. Stack extra cans inside each other.

Disassemble Where Possible

Disassemble tables with removable legs and store them to save space.

Store Sofas and Mattresses Properly

Sofas and loveseats can be stored on end to save floor space. Mattresses can be stood on their sides and propped up straight to prevent them from bending out of shape.
